Body Weatherstrips Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ WG
Door Seals, Belt Weatherstrips & Glass Run Channels against Leaks and Wind Noise (1999–2004)
Why an ageing Grand Cherokee WJ starts whistling and leaking
The Grand Cherokee WJ is a comfort-oriented SUV, which is exactly why fading seals get noticed quickly. After more than twenty years, UV light, ozone, frost and car washes have hardened and shrunk the rubber. The result is wind noise at open-road speeds and water running into the footwell in heavy rain or at the car wash. The belt weatherstrips along the window opening crack, their lip no longer rests against the glass, and dirt and water get into the door – right where the window regulator and door latch sit. Hardened glass run channels slow the glass down, so the power window regulator has to work harder. The upper windshield molding shrinks, lifts and whistles in the airflow. Replacing the rubber in good time protects both the interior and the door mechanics.
From door seals to the upper windshield molding
- Door seals: full-length front door seals as a pair, and for the rear doors either a single seal for right or left or a pair.
- Outer belt weatherstrips, front doors: outer belt weatherstrips front left and front right, or straight away as a pair for both front doors.
- Outer belt weatherstrips, rear doors & complete set: outer belt weatherstrips rear left and rear right, the pair for both rear doors and the four-piece set for all doors.
- Inner belt weatherstrips: inner belt weatherstrips for the front doors, left and right.
- Glass run & windshield: front glass run channels as a pair and the upper windshield molding.
Fairchild for almost everything, Crown for the inner belt strips
Apart from the inner belt weatherstrips, the entire range comes from Fairchild Industries: door seals, outer belt weatherstrips, glass run channels, the four-piece set and the windshield molding. The US weatherstrip specialist manufactures to precise OEM specifications. The inner belt weatherstrips for the front doors are supplied by Crown Automotive – another name backed by American parts know-how.
