The Willys M38A1 – A Milestone in Post-War Jeep History.
The Willys M38A1, internally designated Willys MD, was introduced in 1952 as the successor to the M38 and marks one of the most significant development steps in Willys' post-war history. The more powerful 4-134 F-Head "Hurricane" engine required a complete body redesign – the result was the first generation with the characteristic rounded fenders that still shape the design of the CJ-5 and later Jeep models today. The two-piece windshield, top-mounted wipers, and 24-volt waterproof electrical system made the M38A1 one of the toughest military vehicles of its time. Over 101,000 units were built by 1971 and served in the Korean War and Vietnam War, among other conflicts. After decades of hard service, many original parts today show clear signs of wear – from the electrics to the axles to the body.
For the braking system, you'll find brake parts such as wheel cylinders and brake drums, complemented by parts for the clutch. The core brand here is Raybestos, supplying brake components in OE quality, while Crown Automotive provides a wide range of seals, clutch parts and small hardware – both brands bring American manufacturing heritage to the table.
Around axle / differential, suspension and steering, we rely on genuine axle parts from Dana Spicer, the manufacturer of the installed Dana 25/27 front and Dana 44 rear axle. Tie rod ends and steering components come from Dorman among others, with small parts supplied by Omix.
For the engine (engine parts 2.2L F-Head), the T90 manual transmission and the Dana 18 transfer case, we stock gasket sets, bearings and seals – mostly in proven Crown quality.
Electrics, fuel system and cooling round out the range: ignition components and sensors come from Standard Ignition, with further small parts supplied by Omix and Crown..
Body parts (body spare parts), interior components (interior) and accessories & softtops come largely from Philippine reproduction specialist MD Juan, extended grab bars and mirrors are supplied by RT Off-Road, while softtops and half doors come from Bestop.
For exhaust parts and service, we offer wear parts from Crown as well as ignition components from Champion.
Whether it's a single wear part or a complete restoration of your Willys M38A1 – we're happy to advise you on compatibility, installation order, and the specifics of the 24-volt electrical system. Your order ships from our warehouse as fast as possible, and we're also here to help with questions about the different production-year specs (e.g. Dana 25 vs. Dana 27 front axle).
