Brake Parts Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ
Calipers, Rotors & Pads for Teves and Akebono Systems (1999–2004).
Why WJ Brakes Come Down to Teves or Akebono
The Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ puts close to two tons on the road – so its four-wheel disc brake system works hard at both axles. Up front, Jeep fitted two different systems: Continental Teves (through 2002) and Akebono. Pads, calipers and piston kits are not interchangeable between them; you can spot the Teves version by the large tension spring visible on the outside of the pad. Typical wear patterns include warped rotors that show up as a pulsating steering wheel under braking, sticking caliper slides and cracked brake hoses. At the rear, the parking brake works as a small drum inside the rotor hat – its shoes and cables are often overlooked until the handbrake no longer holds on a slope. ABS sensors also suffer from corrosion and then trigger the warning light.
Rotor, Caliper, Cable – Every Part of the WJ Brake System
- Rotors & Complete Kits: The front rotor pair is available in R-Line, Specialty and Performance grades, and for the rear axle also as a complete kit of rotors and pads.
- Pads for Teves and Akebono: The Teves brake pads for vehicles up to 2002 and the Akebono brake pads for the second front-axle system, with Element3 grades also available for the Teves setup.
- Calipers & Rebuild Kits: A new brake caliper for front or rear, or the piston and seal kit for an overhaul, complemented by guide pins and tension springs.
- Master Cylinder & Brake Hoses: The master cylinder with reservoir plus the matching brake hose for every wheel position and the center hose to the proportioning valve.
- Parking Brake: The parking brake cable for front and rear, along with the parking brake shoe kit with springs for the drum inside the rear rotor.
- ABS, Brake Light & Hub: The ABS sensor for every wheel, the brake light switch on the pedal, plus pedal pad, bleeder screw and the complete hub assembly for the Dana 30 front axle.
Raybestos at the Core, Dorman and Crown for Lines and Details
Rotors, pads, calipers and the master cylinder come mainly from Raybestos, brake hoses, parking brake cables and caliper pins from Dorman. Crown Automotive supplies the piston kit, bleeder screw, pedal pad and hub assembly, Mopar the genuine ABS sensor brackets. ABS sensors and the brake light switch are made by Standard Ignition, further ABS sensors by the European brands NTY and Ridex – with Ridex also adding budget-friendly calipers and pads. A second master cylinder comes from Omix, which, like the remaining brands, is US-based.
