The Willys M38 – From Korean War Jeep to Prized Collector's Vehicle.

The Willys M38 was developed as a military evolution of the civilian CJ-3A and served the US Army and several NATO forces during the Korean War. Compared to its civilian counterpart, it received a reinforced frame, a more rugged suspension, and a fully waterproofed 24-volt electrical system capable of withstanding fording depths of over a meter. The engine, transmission, transfer case, and fuel system were completely sealed to allow operation under the harshest conditions. After more than 70 years, virtually every assembly shows age-related wear: seals harden, bearings run dry, wiring harnesses become brittle, and body panels corrode. Anyone restoring an M38 today or keeping it in original condition needs replacement parts for nearly every area of the vehicle – from the drivetrain to the interior.
