The Willys/Jeep CJ5 – A Classic With History.

The Willys CJ5, sold under the Jeep brand from 1964 onward, is one of the longest-running and most-produced off-road vehicles in automotive history – the model stayed in the lineup virtually unchanged from 1955 to 1983. The first series (1955–1971) was shaped decisively by new parent-company head Kaiser and by the M38A1, which had proven itself in the Korean War: the CJ5 adopted its rounder body lines, the distinctive seven-slot grille, the one-piece windshield, and the top-mounted wipers. Under the hood, the proven 4-cylinder 4-134 F-Head "Hurricane" came first, joined in 1961 by the Perkins diesel and from 1966 by the more powerful Buick Dauntless V6. Depending on year and engine, T86, T90, or T98 transmissions left the line along with the Dana 18 transfer case, while the front axle used a Dana 25 (through 1965) or Dana 27 (from 1966) and the rear consistently relied on the sturdy Dana 44. Decades on- and off-road take their toll on axles, suspension, electrics, and body – reason enough to rely on properly fitting replacement parts during restoration.

For the drivetrain, our Engine Parts section covers the F-Head, the Perkins diesel and the Buick V6, complemented by matching Clutch and Fuel System parts – mostly from Crown Automotive and Omix. Operating temperature is kept in check under Cooling with radiator parts from Crown, complemented by the Exhaust System with pipes and mufflers from Crown Automotive and AP Exhaust for a tight exhaust path.

Under Transmission we distinguish all six variants fitted to the CJ5 55-71 individually: T86 (1966–67), T90 (1955–71), T98 (1955–72), T14 (1967–71), T15 (1971–75) and T18 (1966–83) – each with gasket kits, bearings and small parts from Crown Automotive. The matching Transfer Case Dana 18 completes the drivetrain, also mostly supplied by Crown, Dana Spicer and Omix.

Depending on model year, the front axle is either the Dana 25 Front Axle (1955–65) or the Dana 27 Front Axle (1966–71), with the Dana 44 Rear Axle fitted throughout; the Drive Shafts carry the power there, and we bundle all four areas under Axle/Differential as well – axle parts mostly come from Dana Spicer, one of the best-known names in American drivetrain engineering. Matching springs, bushings and shocks for Suspension are supplied among others by Prothane and Daystar, while Steering covers tie rods and steering gear parts from Crown, Dorman and Omix. For reliable stopping power, our Brake Parts section carries components from Raybestos, Dorman, Crown and MD Juan.

Electrical covers ignition, alternator and sensors, with parts from Crown, Standard Ignition, Champion and the German manufacturer Hella – a rare European addition to an otherwise American-dominated lineup.

Around the body, our Body Parts section offers sheet metal, hinges and trim from Crown, RT Off-Road and Fairchild, while Interior covers seat covers and cabin parts from Crown and RT Off-Road. For tops, tarps or accessories, check Accessories & Softtops – among others with products from Bestop, Crown and RT Off-Road. For routine maintenance, we bundle wear and service parts from Crown, Standard Ignition and Champion under Service & Inspection.

Whether it's an axle rebuild, a transmission overhaul, or your annual inspection – we're happy to advise on cross-year compatibility, installation order, and torque specs. Most parts for your Jeep CJ5 55-71 ship from our warehouse at short notice, so you can get your vehicle back on the road without long downtimes.
