Driveline Parts for Jeep CJ5
U-Joints, Drive Yokes, Slip Yokes & Seals for Reliable Power Transfer (1955–1971).
Why the Driveline in the Jeep CJ5 Needs Servicing After Decades.
The driveline transfers power from the transfer case to the front and rear axles and stays under constant load in every Jeep CJ5, regardless of which axle type is fitted. U-joints wear from the constant rotation with every steering input and every drivetrain engagement, developing noticeable play or a characteristic clunking noise over time. Propeller shaft slip yokes wear from the axial movement during suspension travel, causing vibrations in the drivetrain. Drive yokes and their nuts loosen from constant vibration, resulting in play between the driveshaft and axle. The pinion seal at the differential also hardens over time and lets gear oil leak out. Anyone driving their CJ5 off-road or preparing it for daily use should regularly check the complete driveline for play, vibration, and leaks – regardless of whether a Dana 25, 27, or 44 axle is fitted.
