T150 3-Speed Tremec Transmission Parts for Jeep CJ7
Gears, bearings and overhaul kits for your three-speed (1976-1979).
Why the T150 wears out where it does.
The T150 arrived in the CJ7 in 1976 as a three-speed with a considerably lighter build than the cast-iron T18 alongside it – a gearbox designed for everyday driving rather than for permanent full-load duty. That shows after four decades. The blocking rings for second and third gear are usually the first to go, announcing themselves as a crunch when you shift down into second. Thrust washers on the cluster gear wear thin, the gear set gains axial play, and the resulting rattle is easily mistaken for a clutch fault. Add hardened gaskets and a tired output seal, and the oil level quietly drops until the bearings run short of lubricant. None of this is dramatic on its own – but once the gearbox is out and open, replacing every wear item in one pass is far cheaper than a second removal a year later.
What you will find in this category
- Shafts and gears: From the main shaft through to the cluster gear, individual first and second gears, the input shaft and the reverse idler are all available separately.
- Synchronizers and shift forks: The synchronizer for 2nd and 3rd gear plus the matching blocking ring set cure a crunching downshift; springs, plates and shift forks round out the repair.
- Bearings, snap rings and spacers: The input shaft bearing and the front bearing retainer set the shaft position; snap rings, thrust washers and spacers take out the accumulated end play.
- Gaskets and oil seals: The gasket and oil seal kit covers the whole case in one order, while the output shaft seal stops the drip at the transfer case joint.
- Complete rebuild kits: The master overhaul kit brings bearings, seals and small parts together; the separate bearing and installation kit suits a partial rebuild.
- Shift linkage, clutch actuation and mounts: A new clutch release lever restores a clean pedal feel, and the shift knob, boots, lever spring and gearbox mount finish the job.
Where the parts for your T150 come from.
Almost the entire range here is Crown Automotive – shafts, gears, bearings, gasket kits and complete overhaul sets from one of the longest-established names in the American Jeep parts trade, which keeps part numbers consistent across a rebuild. The blocking rings for second and third gear come from Omix, and the back-up lamp switch from Standard Ignition, a US specialist in switching contacts.
Torque specs, installation sequence, shipping times.
Not sure whether your CJ7 has the T150 or the later T176? We help you identify the gearbox, work out the installation sequence, the mainshaft nut torque and which small parts are already contained in the master overhaul kit – just send us your model year and VIN. Your order leaves the warehouse in Germany as quickly as possible so the rebuild does not stall halfway.
