Clutch Parts for Jeep CJ7
Complete Kits, Pressure Plates, Hydraulic Cylinders & Linkage for Clean Disengagement and Full Power Transfer (1976–1986).
Why the Clutch Is One of the Hardest-Working Assemblies in the CJ7.
In the Jeep CJ7, the clutch transfers the entire torque of the 2.5, 4.2, 5.0 or 5.9l engine to the manual transmission – and separates that connection again with every gear change. The friction lining of the clutch disc wears down by design, the diaphragm spring of the pressure plate loses clamping force over the years, and the throwout bearing turns noisy or rough. Off-road use makes it worse: pulling away on a slope or crawling through mud keeps the clutch slipping and thermally loaded. The actuation side is just as critical. On the mechanical linkage of the early build years, bushings, bellcrank pivots and boots wear out, so pedal free play drifts. On the later hydraulic systems, master and slave cylinders lose pressure as soon as the seals age. If the engine is out anyway, replacing the complete clutch assembly is the sensible move.
- Clutch Kits & Master Kits: The complete clutch kit with 11" disc for the T150 transmission for 76-79 and the master kit including throwout and pilot bearing for 80-86.
- Clutch Discs & Pressure Plates: The heavy-duty 11" clutch disc for the six- and eight-cylinder engines and the matching diaphragm-spring pressure plate.
- Throwout & Pilot Bearings: The mechanical throwout bearing for 80-86 and the pilot bearing in the crankshaft that guides the transmission input shaft.
- Linkage, Bellcrank & Adjustment: The complete bellcrank linkage kit for 76-86 and the frame-side bellcrank bracket, plus wear adjusters and rods for precise pedal free play.
- Hydraulic Actuation: The master cylinder for 2.5 and 4.2 litre engines from 80 on and the slave cylinder at the gearbox, supported by repair kits and the pressure hose.
- Boots, Bushings & Pedal Parts: The boot and bushing kit keeps dirt away from the linkage, and the pedal pad restores secure footing.
Brands With Experience in the American Drivetrain.
The core of the range comes from Crown Automotive: clutch kits, discs, pressure plates, bearings and every small linkage part – American replacement-part expertise for the CJ series. Hydraulic master and slave cylinders are supplied by Dorman, and the bellhousing inspection cover comes from Omix. Heavy-duty kits for the 2.5 litre AMC engine are built by Platinum Driveline, while LuK contributes the German-made clutch kit for the 2.5 litre GM engine.
Advice on Clutch Replacement and Installation.
Replacing the clutch on a CJ7 means pulling the transmission – which makes choosing the right parts upfront worthwhile. We are happy to advise on pressure plate bolt torque, on installation order including the alignment tool, and on which disc diameter suits your transmission – T150, T18, SR4, T4, T5 or T176. Dispatch is from stock in Germany, usually within the next business day.
