Why a CJ7 soft top rarely wears out all at once.
A soft top on a Jeep CJ7 rarely wears out all at once. It is usually the individual parts that move or take load every day that give up first: snap fasteners tear out of the fabric, zippers on doors and windows lose teeth, and the rubber lip of the windshield channel hardens and lets water through. Roll bar covers and tire covers fade and crack in the sun, while fabric doors sag after years of use and no longer close properly. Replacing individual parts in a targeted way often saves you a complete new top – and lets you upgrade your vehicle at the same time, for example with sturdy steel half doors, a new skin for your existing frame or a quick cover for trips without a top.
From windshield channel to steel half door.
- Fabric 2-piece doors and half doors: The door pairs with upper and lower sections fit the Supertop, Sunrider and Halftop, such as the 2-piece doors in Black Denim for CJ7s from 1980. Early vehicles up to 1980 have their own versions, plus lower half doors such as the half doors in Black Crush. Matching door handles with slide latch or striker bolt are also available separately.
- Steel Element Doors: The HighRock 4x4 half doors are rugged and secure and give better all-round visibility, for example the Element Doors for CJ7s from 1980. They are complemented by an enclosure kit, upper fabric doors and storage bags for the inside.
- Replacement skins and window kits: For an existing Supertop frame there are replacement skins without frame, with clear or tinted windows in Black or Spice Denim, such as the replacement skin with tinted windows in Black Denim. If you only want to swap the windows, tinted kits with rear window and both side windows are available – for the Supertop in Black Denim or Black Crush and for the Sunrider flip-back top.
- Installation and repair: The windshield channel holds the soft top and bikini top. There are also tailgate bars for the Supertop or original top, side retainer rails and a lift gate hinge for the hardtop. The snap repair kit with tool suits older tops, not the Supertop or Tigertop.
- Covers for the trail: Trail covers such as the trail cover in Charcoal Denim quickly close off the cabin when no top is fitted. The emergency soft top is designed for low speeds of up to around 30 km/h and protects you until a proper top is fitted again.
- Roll bar covers and tire covers: Roll bar covers with zippers come in Black Denim, Black Crush and Tan Denim, and tire covers fit 28- and 33-inch tires.
Bestop and Pavement Ends, plus Crown and RT Off-Road.
All but four items come from Bestop – from the snap repair kit and Element Doors to the replacement skins. The emergency top and all-weather trail cover come from Pavement Ends, a Bestop brand. The hardtop lift gate hinge is made by Crown Automotive, the grey trail cab cover by RT Off-Road. All four are US brands focused on Jeep parts.
