Brake Parts
Wheel Cylinders, Brake Drums, Shoes & Parking Brake for Reliable Stopping Power (1955–1975).
Why the Braking System of the Jeep CJ6 Varies So Much Across Two Decades of Production.
The Jeep CJ6 was built from 1955 to 1975 – over this long span, the braking system changed several times: from early 9-inch drum brakes to 10-inch and later 11-inch systems, some still using a simple master cylinder without a power booster. This variety makes correct parts matching demanding, but also essential. Wheel cylinders lose their seal through corrosion and aging gaskets, brake drums go out-of-round or wear too thin, and brake shoes and linings wear down over time. Brake hoses harden and become porous after decades of use, while master cylinders lose pressure as their seals wear out. Parking brake cables, levers, and shoes as well as brake adjusters also suffer from age and vibration. Anyone driving or restoring a CJ6 should inspect the braking system regularly and by exact model year – safety is the top priority here.
- Wheel Cylinders Front & Rear: Matching front wheel cylinders and rear wheel cylinders for 9-, 10-, and 11-inch brake systems, depending on model year.
- Master Cylinders: The classic master cylinder for early years and the master cylinder without power booster for later 11-inch systems.
- Brake Drums, Shoes & Linings: Complete drum and shoe kits plus individual brake shoes for front or rear.
- Brake Hoses & Lines: The brake hose and the rear brake line for tight, flexible connections.
- Parking Brake, Pedal & Adjusters: The parking brake shoes and the brake adjuster for a correctly adjusted drum brake.
Trusted American Brand Quality for Every Production Phase.
Crown Automotive covers the largest share of the range – wheel cylinders, brake drums, hoses, and parking brake components with American roots. Brake shoes, drum-and-shoe kits, and brake adjusters come mainly from Raybestos, complemented by adjuster kits and a rear hose from Dorman. Parking brake levers and the brake pedal arm are supplied by Omix, while the brake pedal itself comes from Philippine manufacturer MD Juan. Crown, Raybestos, Dorman, and Omix all stand for proven American parts manufacturing.
