Dana 18 & Dana 20 Transfer Case Parts for Jeep CJ6

Two Generations, One Goal: Reliable Power Transfer (1955–1975)

Two Transfer Case Generations in One Model.

Throughout its production run, the Jeep CJ6 was fitted with two different transfer cases: up until 1971, the lighter, widely used Dana 18 was standard; from 1972 onward, Jeep switched to the beefier Dana 20 with its additional output bearing. Both units share many of the same wear points – the intermediate shaft and needle bearings wear from constant power transfer, seals and housing gaskets harden over time and start leaking, and the shift mechanism takes a beating from frequent switching between drive modes. Which unit is fitted in your CJ6 depends on its model year – if in doubt, check the data plate or VIN. Whichever transfer case you have, you'll find the matching range of replacement and wear parts here.

  • Dana 18 Transfer Case (1955–1971): The complete parts range for the earlier CJ6 model years is available in the Dana 18 Transfer Case category – from the intermediate shaft to gears, seals, and shift components.
  • Dana 20 Transfer Case (1972–1975): The heavier-duty unit of the later model years, with all parts, is available in the Dana 20 Transfer Case category – including output bearings, gasket kits, and the propeller shaft yoke.

American Engineering Behind Both Units.

Most of the parts for both the Dana 18 and Dana 20 come from Crown Automotive, one of the best-known names in Jeep parts made in the USA. Pinion nuts and lock washers come from Dana Spicer, the original manufacturer of both transfer cases, complemented by driveline components from Omix – all three brands rooted in the USA.
