Why the T18 Manual Transmission in the Jeep CJ6 Needs Attention After Decades.

The Warner T18 was a rugged 4-speed manual transmission commonly paired with a Dana 18 or Dana 20 transfer case in the later CJ6 production years. After decades in service, almost every remaining T18 shows the same wear patterns: oil seals on the input shaft and mainshaft harden and start leaking, letting gear oil escape and starving internal lubrication. The bearings on the input shaft and rear mainshaft wear down from decades of rotation, while internal gears like the reverse idler gear and synchronizing hubs wear from constant load. The clutch throwout fork also suffers from constant use, and the shifter boot and poppet ball are essential for a precise shift feel. Anyone restoring or fully overhauling their T18 should inspect and replace these wear parts in time.

American Manufacturing Quality for Your T18.

All parts for the T18 manual transmission – from bearings to gasket kits and the clutch throwout fork – come from Crown Automotive, one of the best-known names in the American spare parts market for classic Jeep and Willys vehicles. The gear and synchronizing hub are supplied by Omix, also a US manufacturer. These reproductions are built to OEM-quality standards and reflect proven American engineering that still holds up after decades in the field.
