Why the T14 Manual Transmission in the Jeep CJ6 Needs Attention After Decades.

The Warner T14 was a lighter-duty 3-speed manual transmission Jeep installed mainly in the later half of the CJ6's production run starting in model year 1967, often paired with a Dana 18 or Dana 20 transfer case. After more than five decades in service, almost every remaining T14 shows the same wear patterns: the input shaft oil seal hardens and starts leaking, letting gear oil escape and starving internal lubrication. The bearings on the mainshaft and input shaft wear down from decades of rotation, causing noticeable play or running noise. The clutch throwout fork also suffers from constant use and can wear out its pivot points, while the shifter boot and poppet ball are essential for a precise shift feel. Mainshaft nuts and washers loosen over time. Anyone restoring or fully overhauling their T14 should inspect and replace these wear parts in time, before more serious transmission damage occurs.
