Engine Parts 2.2L 4-Cylinder 4-134 cui F-Head "Hurricane" Jeep CJ6
Pistons, Gaskets & Bearings for the F-Head Engine (1955–1971).
Why the F-Head Engine Needs Attention After Decades of Service.
The 2.2-liter 4-cylinder F-Head engine (134 cui, also known as the Hurricane engine) powered early Jeep CJ6 models from 1955 to 1971, before the more powerful 3.8L, 4.2L and V8 engines took over from the mid-1960s and early 1970s onward. After decades of service, nearly every sealing surface shows wear: cylinder head, valve cover and oil pan gaskets harden and become porous, main and rod bearings wear out and lose clearance, and piston rings wear down, letting compression and oil pass through the cylinder wall. The timing cover, camshaft gear teeth and valve springs also wear over the years, leading to noisy running and a rough idle. Anyone restoring their CJ6 or fully overhauling the F-Head engine will need to replace these wear parts – it's the only way to keep this historic powerplant reliable and oil-tight for the long run.
- Cylinder Head & Gaskets: The cylinder head gasket and the complete engine gasket set for a full overhaul.
- Crankshaft, Rods & Bearings: The connecting rod bearing in standard and oversizes along with the main bearing set for the crankshaft.
- Pistons & Valve Train: Matching pistons with oversize rings and the valve spring for intake and exhaust valves.
- Ancillary Gaskets: The water pump gasket and the cork oil pan gasket for tight-sealing ancillaries.
- Oil Filter, PCV & Hardware: The matching oil filter plus the PCV valve for crankcase ventilation.
American Engine Expertise for the F-Head.
The bulk of the range – from cylinder head and valve cover gaskets to rod and main bearings, gasket sets and the PCV valve – comes from Crown Automotive, an established name in the US aftermarket for classic Jeep and Willys engines. Pistons, piston rings and the PCV valve are complemented by Omix, also of American origin. Both brands bring proven US engineering tailored specifically to the needs of old Flathead and F-Head engines.
