Engine Parts for Jeep Wrangler JK

2.8L, 3.0L, 3.6L & 3.8L Engines at a Glance (2007–2018)

Which Engine Is in Your Jeep Wrangler JK?

The Jeep Wrangler JK was offered with three different engines from 2007 to 2018: the 3.8-liter V6 gasoline engine was the launch engine from 2007 to 2011, before giving way to the more modern 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 in 2012. Alongside the Pentastar, Jeep offered the 3.0-liter V6 CRD diesel as an option starting in 2014. For the European market, the compact 2.8-liter CRD four-cylinder diesel was also available continuously from 2007 to 2018. All three engine generations share typical wear points such as cylinder head gaskets, motor mounts, crankshaft bearings and timing components – though the specifics differ significantly, from the simple timing chain in the 3.8L to the elaborate dual timing chain in the Pentastar or the timing belt in the CRD diesel. The vehicle identification number or engine code reliably identifies which variant is fitted.

  • 2.8L CRD Diesel: The 2.8-liter CRD four-cylinder diesel was available continuously from 2007 to 2018 and shares its drivetrain with the Cherokee KK and Dodge Nitro.
  • 3.0L & 3.6L (Pentastar & CRD): The 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 replaced the older 3.8L in 2012, joined from 2014 by the optional 3.0-liter CRD diesel.
  • 3.8L V6: The 3.8-liter V6 was the launch engine of the JK from 2007 to 2011.

American Engine Expertise Across Every Generation.

Across all three engine lines, Crown Automotive forms the backbone of the range, complemented by Enginetech for bearings and pistons and Mopar for EGR and intake components – all American brands. Filters and select gaskets come from European manufacturers Ridex and NTY.
